You Don't Know What is Around the Corner
With the holidays, the end of the semester coming up,
and hearing that some people could not make it, I did
not expect much from Sunday night.
Thought Veronica and I might be the only ones, and
that is how the evening started. I was asking Veronica
what she would like to do, since she had the rare
opportunity of personal instruction, when we were
nicely suprised by some young newcomers.
Soon after some regulars popped in, and we had a nice
little group, including four men, and were even able to
do some partner dances early in the evening.
We had a enjoyable time and danced until 10 pm,
when we were left with just Arlene, Erin, Veronica
and myself.
Then something magical happened. We put on the old songs
that we love, ones that Arlene, Erin and I danced with
Dora Friedman more than a dozen years ago. And others dances
that each of us have known from other times and places.
Dancing is always a pleasure for me. Some times it is
good and some times it is great.
For 90 minutes, on Sunday night, it was something special,
more than a pleasure, some how it was, with the right people,
the right time and the right music, the word that comes
to my mind, though it sounds silly, transcendant.
After 4 and a half hours, at 11:30 on a school night,
no one wanted to leave.
Just shows you, you don't know what is around the corner,
from one minute to the next, how your experience might
be transformed.
